During the All-Star skills challenge, two of the youngest and brightest will compete against in the fastest skater competition.
The contest now features head to head matchups against the rival divisions, as opposed to just East vs West.
While there are more than enough players with speed to boot, giving plenty opportunities to beat Dylan Larkin’s record from a season ago, the highlight of this given event has to be MacKinnon and McDavid.
It might just end up as the highlight of the entire night.
Some other notable things to watch;
The accuracy contest will feature former teammates matched up against each other in Kyle Okposo and John Tavares. Auston Matthews and Sidney Crosby will also be one of the heats in the contest, and the two former first overall picks will match up in the stickhandling portion of the relay race.
Patrik Laine will also participate in the accuracy contest, so indirectly the first two picks of the most recent draft will take each other on.
Two of the most celebrated slap shots in the league will be matched up in the hardest shot competition. Shea Weber and Alex Ovechkin are no strangers to this contest, and they have been matched up in the Atlantic vs Metropolitan heat.
But no matter the matchup in the other contests, it will always come back to the MacKinnon/McDavid race. In today’s game where speed is everything, these two players are the face of the new age player that rely on that given talent.
With plenty to boot, this could be one for the ages.
